ONTOLOGY AND EPISTEMOLOGY

What is Ontology? How is it relevant to research?

Ontology is generally defined as the study of being real that means it is study related to reality which exists around the surrounding environment and which surrounds us. It is the foundation for the entire meta physical systems. It is the study of being nature of human existence. Ontology is dealt with the ultimate nature of the universe. The study of ontology describes that whatever exists all around is real.

If we talk about research then Ontology then we can say anything is real without further experiments or in detail investigations. Before getting into the conclusion we have to first analyze about anything, it might be testing the reality. It involves all the things that comprises the reality.

What is Epistemology? How is it relevant to research?

Epistemology is the study of getting knowledge with perfect reasoning. If we talk about epistemology in detail then it generally means that it the study which suggests what conditions are involved to know about a particular statement. Knowledge is defined as, what is justified, true and valid. Like if you want to believe in something then you must ensure that it is true and should have the valid justification for that.

Epistemology in research gives the information about the valid reasons for the things which comes into existence.

What is the connection between Ontology and Epistemology in the research context?

Ontology and Epistemology are the two different terms but they are interlinked with each other as Ontology is the study which deals with the existence of reality or it is the nature which exists all around us whereas Epistemology is the study which deals which the reasons and justification of what really exists or how it comes into consideration or comes into the ultimate reality. Epistemology includes the reasons or steps involved in reaching the ultimate goal.

TRUTH:

Basically, truth is that thing which don’t need any proof or evidence to proof it. It is something that exists around us and is real. If we say in simple language then it is something that is just opposite to false and is very difficult to say anything about truth. There are no words that define what is truth.

Is there a difference between ‘knowing something’ and ‘having knowledge’ of something?

Certainly, there is a difference between ‘knowing something’ and ‘having knowledge’ about something. Having knowledge about something signifies that one possesses awareness about the subject, is known to the facts but does not hold specialization in the subject, whereas knowing something denotes that one has expertise in a particular field.

What is ‘truth’?

Truth is something that possesses reality or has fidelity to an original standard. Truth is basically vice-versa to falsehood. Likewise, knowledge, it’s not easy to provide definite clarity about truth.

What do we really mean when we say something is ‘true’?

The expression that ‘something is true’ means that its legible. It stands as a gesture of showing agreeance. It also denotes that the statement holds honesty.

Is there a difference between knowing something is ‘true’ and believing that something is ‘true’?

Knowing and believing are closely knitted words , ‘knowing the truth’ states that one has upto the mark information about the intrieacies of the subject and also is aware about all aspects whereas ‘believing’ something means that one has accepted whatever has been told to him/her and has full trust in whatever has been told.

What is the difference between subjective and objective ‘truth’?

Subjective truth is something that is not confirmed by science and depends on one’s belief or opinion. It can be true or even false. Whereas objective truth is accredited by science and is accepted in the whole world by each and every individual.

What is a ‘fact’ and can ‘facts’ change?

Fact is a thing that is true and there is no need to give evidence for that. It possesses objective reality and does not change over time.

How do we discover if something is ‘true’ or not?

Truth is an observation. One perceives it and experiences it. Any external source for its verification of truth or false should be taken into consideration.

“We do not see things as they are but as we are” Anais Nin. What does this mean?

It means that each person will have own preconceptions and will evaluate something on the basis of those perceptions. None will look into objectivity, rather on the basis of own attitude.

“Reality is an illusion, albeit a very persistent one” Einstein. What does this mean?

Modern day science has proven that space, time, energy, matter; all operate in ways that are exclusively counterinteritive to human intellect. Our perceived reality holds a bit of resemblance to the outright weirdness. He was referring that idea, it is nearly impossible to prove that anything exists other than what is in our own mind. Resultantly, reality can be viewed as only what our mind possesses.

Is there a difference between ‘true’ and ‘valid’? Explain.

True is a logical state that indicates an affirmative or positive result while valid is an argument.

Research:

It is clearly visible from the word itself that research is getting knowledge about any subject in depth. Re+Search=again searching about anything(any subject) and getting indulged into it.

What do you think ‘research’ is?

Research is what an individual or group of individuals find more attractive or impressive in an existing work. It is basically having or get to know about advance knowledge of something and will get the finalized and desired output.

Do you think you will ever need research skills?

I think I will definitely need research skills if I will move for research work or get any job in the field of research.

What do you think a research journal is and who is it written for?

Research journal is a type of data or evidence which is being kept by an experimenter which helps to keep focus or which in turn provides relevancy to a specified research.

It is basically written for the researchers or experimenters so that they will have the clear cut view of their research study.

What is plagiarism?

Plagiarism basically means writing something or preparing any kind of report or any research paper which has its own wordings and involves an individual attempt. The matter involved in any research should particularly belong to a person and it need not to be copied. It involves personal ideas without stealing or poaching someone’s ideas.

Why is it important to avoid it?

It has become a very important aspect in the field of research and is declared illegal as it is a form of theft as it includes stealing one’s information. If we think plagiarism in the other way, then it benefits an individual a lot as it involves personal work and dedication by involving his own wordings. It can be removed by citing and and paraphrasing information in your own words.

Introduce Yourself (Example Post)

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
